Adventures with the Double Bass!

I am delighted to see another selection of my works are now available and published by Recital Music.
First introduced into the world of the double bass - the large family of its performers and composers - a few years ago after listening to a number of recordings and having the opportunity of sharing them on my radio show ’Trust Me I’m A Composer’.
Up to this point I was quite unaware of the rich and creative world of double bass music and the players around the globe.
When I first listened to this fabulous soundworld and its performers, I very quickly became inspired by how wide ranging and how expressive this instrument can be, as both a solo instrument, double bass and piano, or in ensembles of a few or many double basses together.
Up to this point, yes I had written many times for double bass, but only in its role as an ensemble player and orchestral instrument, yet here were solos, duos, trios, quartets, various mixed ensembles, etc.
So, with my composers hat on, so to speak, and having being inspired by the possibilities, I quickly set to work on my ’scribbling’.
Invited by David Heyes to join other composers and performers from around the world in some fantastic projects which Recital Music organised and promoted.
I was honoured to have a series of commissions included in a number of these projects; both in concerts and publications.
Over the following years these have frequently appeared in print, such as: 'Da Vinci 500’, ‘Syrinx’, 'Self Portrait’, 'Koussevitzky Connections’ and 'A tribute to Tony'.
My double bass compositions have been performed here in the UK, as well as in Albania, Turkey, and USA.
I have also recently been commissioned by Recital Music ’40@40’ to write a new 'suite' for double bass and piano to celebrate the 40 years of RM publishing music.
